How do you register newborns in DEERS/Tricare while you are deployed in the Army?
Q. My husband is currently deployed, but he was unable to change our home address in DEERS because he lost his driver's liscence (they require uniform plus two forms of photo ID). I do not live on base, and I am 5 months pregnant so when our son is born, we also will need to get him registered immediately. How can this be done while he is away?

A. Take your ID, Power of Attorney, and Child's birth Certificate to your closest base's DEERS office. You'll have to fill out some paperwork while you are there. It's quick and simple. You have 60 days from the birth to get the enrollment done. Everything your child needs will be covered for those first 60 days, after that, the child must be enrolled in DEERS to continue receiving care. You can change your address with the DEERS office while you are there. Bring your Military ID, Driver's License and a utility or insurance bill showing your correct address. That's all the DEERS office asked us for when we moved.

How to help two baby deers?
Q. I have two baby deers in my neigborhood, it located very closed to a busy road and a freeway, and I am worried about them. I called police before anf they say they cannot do anything about it. Is there any certain department I can call now? I just called wildlife rescue center, thay cannot help, and they told me they don't know any service that will come and rescue those deers, because they say it's a "nature animals"... I guess, it is pointless to call vet or shelter...

A. If the fawns are not orphaned or injured, there is no reason to remove them from their natural environment. If the mother deer successfully bred and delivered these babies in your neighborhood, they have as much chance of survival there with her as they do anywhere else. It is sad when we see animals killed on the road. Unfortunately, as long as man continues to develop land and take it away from the animals that lived there, this will continue to happen.

A. There is rarely a need to use chemical compounds. No need to poison the environment. Ideally, young trees should be wrapped with chicken wire, plastic wrap, plastic tubing, and/or sprayed with deer repellant. There are different types of repellents, like (predator urine), and red pepper type sprays. One helps keep the deer out of the area, while the other makes the tree bark taste nasty. Most deer damage happens in the winter, when there is deep snow and food is limited. Deer will eat tree bark, when other plants are unavailable. If you live in a area with deer, you should take measures to protect your trees and shrubs during the winter.
