Deer are the ruminant mammals forming the family Cervidae. They include for example Moose, Red Deer, Reindeer, Roe and Chital. Male deer of all species but the Chinese Water deer and female reindeer grow and shed new antlers each year. In this they differ from permanently horned animals such as antelope; these are in the same order as deer and may bear a superficial resemblance. The musk deer of Asia and Water Chevrotain (or Mouse Deer) of tropical African and Asian forests are not usually regarded as true deer and form their own families, Moschidae and Tragulidae, respectively.

oh, so now you don't like deer or something?
Q. You don't want me to eat it yet you're not offering yourself to me. It's a choice between you and the deer, so if you truly liked them you would let me have you for dinner so our Cervidae friend here can go free. Don't you feel guilty now? Tree - Hell no, Therapist = The Rapist.

Are you allowed to put footnotes in a short story?
Q. I'm writing a short story for my creative writing class, and am using the word Cervidae in my title. I know that no one knows what that means so I'd like to put a footnote in.

A. Sure, there's no law against. It has been done.
