Deer are the ruminant mammals forming the family Cervidae. They include for example Moose, Red Deer, Reindeer, Roe and Chital. Male deer of all species but the Chinese Water deer and female reindeer grow and shed new antlers each year. In this they differ from permanently horned animals such as antelope; these are in the same order as deer and may bear a superficial resemblance. The musk deer of Asia and Water Chevrotain (or Mouse Deer) of tropical African and Asian forests are not usually regarded as true deer and form their own families, Moschidae and Tragulidae, respectively. Q. I have a bunch of old bleached deer antlers and was wondering what I could use to give them a newer natural look. Like some kind of stain. What colors of stain? Like a polyurethane? You can always go darker, you can NOT go lighter. Wood stain would be your best bet- I prefer wood stain/s. There are TONS of colors from dark dark stains to stains that only seal the wood. Also, don't use a polyurethane that has a high gloss- it's not natural looking. Go with a semi-gloss or no gloss. Apply with a rag or part of an old (clean) sock.
